A Bolt-On Spindle That Provides Lowering and Optimum Handling All in One
It is no secret that muscle cars of the ’60s and early ’70s were known for doing one thing really well: going fast in a straight line. While the Camaro, Nova, Chevelle and its cousin nameplates were making a name for themselves on dragstrips across the country, they weren’t necessarily tearing up any autocrosses or road courses with abandon. Not without a lot of suspension and chassis work at least, which was rather primitive for the time.
Over the decades various suspension upgrades (and fads!) have come and gone, but with today’s tire and braking technology you can have a muscle car that handles as well as it accelerates and do so with bolt-on parts! G-Comp by Speedway has designed a super strong forged spindle for GM F, X, and A body cars that corrects and improves upon the factory front suspension geometry and not only is it a true bolt-on product, but it is compatible with stock upper and lower control arms and OE disc brakes! This allows you to assemble your performance front suspension in stages by simply upgrading the spindle now, and then upgrading your control arms, brakes, and so forth as budget allows!
Forged For Maximum Strength to Handle Whatever You Can Throw at It
Starting with a stout 4140 steel forging our Speedway engineers took the opportunity to fix issues commonly found in the stock cast OEM Chevelle spindles when used in a performance handling environment. Obviously the first is the 4140 forged steel base material. This strong metal is preferred over other materials for its strength and higher carbon content, which allows it to have greater hardenability. Stock spindles are cast steel, which means the metal is heated to its melting point and poured into a mold and cast. Forged spindles are pressed via giant forges into their shape. This creates a stronger final material for a spindle to allow it to take the stresses of high loads in cornering and braking. We’ve also maintained the factory track width so upgrading to these G-Comp by Speedway spindles will not interfere with existing wheel and tire fitments you may currently be running.
Obviously having a strong spindle is something we all want, but our engineers took it even further, raising the upper ball joint mounting location and relocating it to increase negative camber gain and positive caster gain. While our G-Comp by Speedway spindles are indeed taller, we have raised the spindle pin 2 inches, which lowers your front ride height by the same 2 inches. This provides you with that great lowered appearance we all love without having to resort to lowering springs, which often come with a harsh and less compliant ride characteristic. But these aren’t your typical 2 inch drop spindles though. The built-in 7-degree pin inclination angle means your front tire’s contact patch stays flat to the road surface while cornering for maximum grip and braking ability. Standard bolt-on power steering-spec steering arms work with our forged G-comp by Speedway spindle and utilize the lower mounting holes machined into the spindle to maintain the proper steering geometry. We offer the correct steering arms for ’67-’69 Camaro F body & ’68-’74 Nova X body as well as ’64-’72 Chevelle and other GM A body cars. Individual spindles are available for service replacement as well.
Compatible With Stock and Aftermarket Brake Packages
We designed the G-Comp by Speedway forged spindle to accept stock OEM disc brake components or any stock-replacement compatible aftermarket brake system. You can quickly and easily reuse your stock disc brakes while benefitting from all our spindle’s other great handling advantages we’ve built into the spindle yet know that when you’re ready to take your braking to the next level our spindle is ready to grow with you. We offer an extremely great value in our complete 11-inch disc brake kit if you’re looking for new braking components to get you on the road quickly. Whether it is our replacement 11-inch disc kit, or your own original disc brakes being reinstalled to these forged drop spindles, we highly recommend our brake hardware kit to make your installation go smoothly with these spindles.
